Antonio Lotti short biography
One of the most important Italian composers during the late Baroque and early Classical period, Antonio Lotti was appointed Maestro di Cappella at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice, the highest positions for a composer during this period. Lotti succeeded Andrea Gabrieli and Claudio Monteverdi. Lotti was famous as a composer of secular and sacred music . Lotti was an outstanding teacher; some of his students included Marcello, Alberti, Bassani, Gasparini and Galuppi.
